The Sovereign Wealth Fund Institute (SWFI) and the Guild of Investment Managers (GIM) recently hosted their inaugural charity gala dinner at Haberdashers’ Hall in London. The event, part of SWFI’s Global Wealth Conference, brought together 150 global financial leaders from around the world, including government officials and esteemed figures from the finance sector.
Lakshmi Narayanan, Chairman of SWFI, commented: “We are delighted to bring together such esteemed guests for this important cause. Dr. Al-Hajraf’s insights and his receipt of the Goodfellow Award highlight the caliber of expertise and leadership in our industry.”
His Excellency Dr. Nayef Falah Al-Hajraf, former Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (2020-23) and Minister of Finance and Chairman of the Kuwait Investment Authority (2017-19), delivered the evening’s keynote speech. In his address, Dr. Al-Hajraf highlighted the growing attractiveness of the GCC in drawing global investments.
Following his insightful talk, Dr. Al-Hajraf was honored with the Goodfellow Award for his exceptional contributions to international financial cooperation and leadership in the sovereign wealth fund sector. This prestigious accolade, presented annually, recognizes individuals who have demonstrated outstanding commitment to advancing global financial understanding and collaboration.
Alderman Robert Hughes-Penney, representing the Lord Mayor of London, remarked, “Events like these underscore the importance of investing in human capital for our future.” The gala dinner, held in partnership with the Investment Managers’ Charitable Trust (IMCT), aimed to raise funds for bursaries supporting young individuals from diverse backgrounds entering the investment management industry.
This event marks the beginning of a partnership between SWFI, GIM, and IMCT, creating pathways for the next generation of leaders in investment management while recognizing current leaders through accolades like the Goodfellow Award.
